"Oh, Mikey," she says, standing up. She rushes over to him and hugs him, and Mikey hugs his mom back. | |

"Frank and I will be fine, mom," Mikey says, his voice sincere. "I promise." Mikey's mom simply nods and walks out of the room.

He runs to Gerard's side as tears start to fall from his eyes once again. Gerard had f***ing needles stuck in him. Gerard f***ing hates needles. "He hates needles, Frankie," Mikey whispers, shaking. "He hates hospitals. He can't be here."

It really does bring your world crashing down when your hero gets injured and ends up in the hospital. It makes it even worse when you realize that they chose to do it, like Gerard did. "Why did you do it you a**hole?" Mikey tries to scream at his brother, but it ends up as more of a whisper-yell.

"Why would he do something like that, Frankie?" Mikey asks, turning to the closest person to an authority in the room. Besides, Mikey had spent his whole life looking up to people, so why should he change now of all times?

He suddenly wanted to just get out of that room, to get as far away from there as possible. He didn't want to see his older brother lying on the hospital bed, practically dead. Things like that just didn't happen. Older brothers didn't end up in the hospital, because they're too busy making sure their younger siblings not get messed up.
But the thing about that that Mikey hated the most was that Gerard had never done that for him, except for when they were little. Once Gerard got into middle school, Gerard shut himself off from everyone else, and once he got into high school, Gerard started drinking. He didn't look after Mikey anymore. He didn't draw him pictures, play with him, or even have arguments over which superhero was the best. He was just gone, completely disconnected from everyone else, and Mikey hated it. He hated being reminded of the fact that his brother was an alcoholic and a drug addict who didn't help anyone but himself, because older brothers just don't do that. They look after their kid brother and make sure they don't get their s*** f***ed up, but Gerard decided to get his won s*** f***ed up on his own.

On top of that, he had started to feel as if he was somehow responsible for what had happened to Gerard. If he had only been there for him, this wouldn't have happened. If Mikey had picked up on the clues, then Gerard would still be okay. Maybe he wouldn't have even started drinking in the first place, but Mikey was oblivious. He was too caught up in his own problems to even think that something might be happening to his brother, and he absolutely hated himself for it.

| Frank didn't know what to do. He was always sh*t at stuff like this. All he could do was say, "It's going to be okay," over and over, but truth was, he didn't know that it would be okay. No one really knew. Frank kissed Mikey on the cheek and assured him once more that it would be okay. | |
